Hopefully someone can help me out. I just got off a shoot recorded with boom mic recorded on channel 1, and lav recorded on channel 2. When I bring the files into FCP, the channels are mixed into a stereo pair, not boom panned to left, and lav panned to right. This is our first shoot since our MX upgrade. Any thoughts?

So my files come in as 2 mono channels mixed with both boom and lav. Not stereo! But the audio that is recorded to my digital recorder comes in as 1 stereo with the proper panning. Why would the red mix the two together?

Hey guys, I'm really hoping I can get a response from someone. Even if you're not sure how to help me fix the files I already shot, can anyone go into detail on how to send two different mics to different channels? I'm coming out of my mixer with split XLRs going to my recorder and to the Red. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

FCP will pan them up the center. Use the mixer in FCP to pan left / right. If the mono channels are SUMMED, that's a different issue. Are you working with in-camera proxies? That would be the place to check if they are indeed summed. If you're using transcoded proxies, something could have gone wrong at that stage. I've mistakenly merged L+R before using QT to transcode a quick test. Best luck.

Thanks for getting back to me Michael. They are SUMMED. I can't figure out where this happened! I'm working with transcoded files, but I did go back to the proxies, and they are summed. Panning them in FCP does nothing. Something weird that I noticed on set. The meters were reading separately like they should, but for some reason, I was only able to hear my boom mic on the comtek system coming out of the headphone jack on the camera. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Uh oh...we just were talking about the same problem here. I didn't post yet as I haven't had time to test it.

I think it might be a REDCineX bug, though I hear the channels summed when I listen to the proxies, too.

Anyone from RED care to comment on this?

BREAKTHROUGH!!!! So I put out a bunch of clips through red rushes, and even though the color science isn't correct, my audio is coming through as boom on L and lav on R. THANK GOD! So it seems to me the issue is REDCineX. We created Pro Res 4444 clips out of REDCineX v 158, and it mashed the audio together. RED? Any thoughts? Was this fixed in v 183?

Not on v183, as that's when we had the problem. I haven't had a chance to test v194.

Deanan, any clue as to what is going on?

Raise a support ticket. They're probably too slammed with EPIC reservations and NAB stuff to check posts and PMs.
