I own a Pix240 and wanted to pipe the sound directly from the mixer into the Pix, but I'd also like to send it from the Pix to the camera.
Anyone done that through the 5 pin XLR port out of the Pix to the camera?
Does anyone have a resource on where to find that cable?

Not sure about the cable, but just be aware you might have to add in a 2ms delay to the PIX audio input to get it to match the video (due to the delay on SDI out) which means it won't match up to the Epic/Scarlet picture if you pipe it back into the camera.

Hi Daniel,
I had that discussion with Matt from SoundDevices on their forum a few weeks ago, because i'm planning to buy the Pix240.
Yes, definitely the 5-pin out is the way to go he told me. Only SoundDevices doesn't deliver the appropriete cabling for it.
There's Pix240 thread on SD's userforum.

Semi-related question: I'm about to try the Pix 240 with my Scarlet. Any issues with the audio being input to the camera, and then transmitted over SDI to the Pix 240 along with the video?

Thats exactly what I used to do. Problem is the audio glitch with sounds being produced by the Scarlet. I did cover the mount contacts to no avail. Sound problems persisted. Hopefully the new firmware has eliminated that, but I'm weary now, and need good clean sound. That's why I got the Pix.

I've just got done doing some testing today with our new PIX240 and SoundDevices MixPreD on our EPIC. Quick visual diagram-
EPIC SDI OUT to PIX SDI IN
EPIC Sync out to WC Sync Splitter
WC Sync Splitter GENLOCK to PIX SYNC OUT
WC Sync Splitter TC to PIX TC I/O
MixPre analog out to EPIC Audio Analog in

I'm using the PIX240 to generate genlock, but using the EPIC for TC.

I was fighting the snap/click thing that has been a problem on epic audio for a while, until I (for some reason) turned on the 48v phantom in the camera, and the snapping and clicking went away. It was the same with the mic plugged directly into the camera too. Phantom off = snap/click every 3 seconds, Phantom on = clean useable audio. Power to the camera didn't make a difference, I know some people have been getting rid of it by using batts, not the floor wart power supply.

This setup is delivering clean audio to the PIX and the camera, both the camera and the PIX have synced audio, no delay problems that I keep hearing about. I did try going from the MixPre to the PIX via AES, but that was just a mess of delay happening. Plus, then I had to go single channel to the EPIC since the Mix Pre uses ch2 out as a switchable aes/analog out.

Overall I think I found a setup that will work for our needs. Now to setup some basic looks in RCX and load them to the camera!

Matt
