  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I was told at IBC that there will be soon an upgrade for the BATTERY PLATES that will allow a hot swap with the batteries…

Don't think it's a hotswap plate. It's probably a fix for the problem where the mating pins making poor contact due to slight tolerance misalignments caused camera shutdowns and/or overheating:

Any camera invoiced on Sep 15, 2008 or after already has the i/pin and audio board upgrades.

You are correct, ericyoung. As it says in the email: "Any BATTERY PLATES (separate, on a RED CRADLE, on a BATTERY BELT CLIP, or RED QUICKPLATE) and CHARGERS that do not have the current gen mating pin assemblies will be upgraded to current generation. This upgrade will provide increased reliability when powering the RED ONE with a RED BRICK".

This free upgrade plus goodies is unprecedented in our industry.

In my very lengthy career I've never encountered a manufacturer even remotely as focused on benefiting the customer.

The fact that this upgrade covers the cost of shipping is absolutely unbelievable.

I don't even inhale the fumes from Kool Aid, but this makes me consider evangelical fervor.

Yes, the entire upgrade program will be done at both the UK and US RED facilities. Initially, UK will not allow in-person dropoffs and will offer no general repair services. Initial launch of UK is UPGRADE PROGRAM ONLY.

And if your camera has not been upgraded yet and your 16 GB CF CARDS are ready first, we'll send you the upgraded, 16 GB CF CARD-friendly CF reader/writer with that order :)

I don't know if you're only focusing on the camera electronics with that question, but there's still quite a bit of work to be done on the post solutions, especially the SDK.
 
Hello,

I would also like to request the golden classic SINISTAR .. everytime my camera turns on I want to hear "RRAAAAAWWWWWWWWRRRRRR!!!!!!"

Actually, how about letting us load up our CF cards or hard drives with customized boot and menu sounds? BWAHA!
