  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Audio and /i Pins Upgrade Program

We are preparing for the upgrade for the i/pin upgrade program, and this will unfortunately require sending the camera back to RED for installation.

The good news is.. we have taking this opportunity to also redesign the Audio board in parallel, resulting in audio performance that is vastly, vastly, superior. We have decided to swap all existing camera audio boards at no cost during the /i pin installation ( which is also no charge to you. )

This process will start during the last week of September, in order of serial number, and we are targeting a 48 hour turnaround, and for in-person drop-ins we anticipate a 3 hour turnaround. We will give you as much notice as possible when your number comes up.

I hope everyone is happy with these changes.. the audio performance in the production samples we have received are off the charts, and of course the /i pins are something alot of you guys have been waiting for for some time.

So is this confirmation that the upcoming RED Primes and the 18-85 will have the /i system?
 
Sounds great! Especially the audio board..

What is the i/pin upgrade? What does it do? Will we have to pay for it?
Can we get the audio upgrade without the i/pin upgrade?

Will I ever stop asking questions?..... find out next week, 9/8 central.
 
Jarred...a big thanks. I was seriously getting worried that this was dropping off the radar and I *so* glad to know this is coming. I can't wait to send mine back.

This audio news is unexpected and HUGELY appreciated. Thanks to you and Jim and whoever else suggested yet another free upgrade (instead of just holding off for Epic). I record mostly to Red (even though I have a separate recorder) just for the advantage in turnaround time.

Will the "i/" pins only support Cooke and Red lenses, or will you also support Arri?
Will the Audio update eliminate the need for your "special" padded cables?

Both upgrades are no charge to you guys.. we are even paying for the shipping :)

It might be a good time when you send your camera in to get our normal (paid) overhaul/checkup as well though then, since many of you guys at that time are going to be near the end of your 1 year warranty and it would be good to find out if anything is wrong before the warranty expires.

How much would that cost?

I would assume you would do top to bottom QA after the updated installs, because an erroneously performed install could damage something. If something was damaged, it would be impossible to know whether it occurred in shipment or handling at Red. So effectively the overhaul/checkup should be performed automatically.

for us Birger users, how should we handle it. Should we reinstall PL or just ship it to you with PL off? Does this entail any change to the i/cable?
