I use an R680 for Mass storage and an H680 with fanout cable for eSATA connectivity. The eSATA solution works awesome in OS X 10.6.8. When I boot into Lion though, I get no hard drive love. My Red Stations seem to work fine and mount Mags, but no external hard drives hooked up to the eSATA fanout cable will mount. The R680 works fine as ever. I've the latest drivers from ATTO installed.

Similar experiences / solutions?

Thanks!

mine are working fine, sometimes the fanout cable can be bit of a queen. i find that letting the external hard drives spin up all the way first before you plug in the esata allows it to work a lot better. I've been using the h680 with lion for quite some time now no issues.

however my drivers are the latest, but my firmware is from september 2011. which might be the major difference. I keep on that firmware for codex support. it's been perfect for me. the only thing i have issues mounting are glyph drives. but all g drives, g raids, custom enclosures, wiebe tech etc. all mount fine.

These ATTO troubles people encounter always have me stumped (and the guys at ATTO too). It's difficult to get support from ATTO in this regard as they don't consider the card to be an "eSATA" card. Never mind that's exactly what it is by the very definition of the SAS/SATA specification. And also by how they market it, but I digress...

The fact is, the card does work under Lion. It works great. Sometimes I see reports where it doesn't work in some new system, or not under Lion, etc... I'm willing to bet that your problem has to do with an EFI table entry or driver conflict. Not only that, but Tom is correct in that the eSATA fan-out cables can be temperamental. And that's probably the case here. I would swap around connectors on the cable and see if an issue presents itself with the REDMAG reader or if other devices work. Since the card seems to work and the REDMAG reader works, I'm going to suspect cabling or connectors at this point.

There still may be an EFI or driver mismatch causing this if it works in Snow Leopard and not Lion. Make sure you have the latest drivers for the card installed and have the 9/27/2011 firmware or the new 5/21/2012 firmware. Anything older than that will not work properly in 10.7.4.

If all that still checks out, then you may want to pull the card, reset the PRAM, reinstall the card. Could be an improper driver entry in Lion if you installed over the top of Snow Leopard rather than doing a clean install.

Same problem with my H680 and G-drives, LaCie, ecc. works like a champ with SAS LTO5 but no way with eSATA fanout cables (Lion10.7.4)
For now I'm using a lacie eSata Card, but a slot is gone...

Having 8 Channels on the H680 and cannot use them is a nonsense at all
