Hi guys,

I just bought the Senheizer MKH 416 for my EPIC but I obviously can't attach a shock mount since there is no hot shoe on the camera. Any low profile adapter suggestions? I can't have a whole thing going on with brackets and all that since I shoot wildlife. I need a slim design. What I am really looking for is a 3/8 thread to a hot shoe adapter. that would be perfect...

Hi Alex,

If you are going to use a Zeppelin and dead cat, then you can use a spigot-Manfrotto (male/male) markets them, to attach theZeppelin to a top plate, or the side of the top/bottom plate, if desired. You should have phantom power, as I am sure you know. The WC bottom plate, BTW, offers routing options, for the mic inputs, between the bottom plate and the camera bottom, if using the WC A box.

Seems a shock mount could benefit from a spigot as well, but haven't tried that.

Thank you very much

I use a shock mount, or just a standard mic stand clip with a 1/4 20 adapter in it and then attach that to a noga arm. sometimes I mount one of those quick release mounts that 16x9 makes to the body as well so I can easily pop it on and off.

With a spacer, attached to the sliding red handle: http://www.red.com/store/products/sliding-top-handle

Once attached, both slide off together when you pack the camera away. It's quick and efficient. 416 might be a little narrow, but you could add something to fill the gap. 416 is also narrow in it's pattern, so easy to go off access. For wildlife it's probably good though. As a run-n-gun mic you may want to swap out for a me64.
