I am diving deeping into film and have been reading non stop for the last few weeks. I've learned a lot but for every answer I have two new questions lol.
Anyways I saw someone mention the Atomos Samurai Blade or Assassin ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1180283-REG/atomos_atomnjass1_ninja_assassin.html ) . From what I can tell it allows you to record footages your to edit your on set
Simultaneously . I also saw that it has histogram tools ect. I own a Red Scarlet X . I know it has a lot of these tools built in already. It also showed some features regarding file numbering and naming and editing. Im still a little confused, but for those that have used it or are familiar with it can you explain to me the key benefits and drawbacks. And is it worth getting the Assassin or is the Blade sufficient.

These are for cameras with inferior recording built into the camera. It's not necessary with red cameras. Plus you will only be able to record HD resolution anyway. The only advantage is having Quictime files ready for offline editing.

Ohh so not really worth the 1000$ or 500$?

It depends on whether generating editable Quicktime files is important to you. I have TV clients that want editable 1080 files, and it is much faster and more efficient to record these to media and copy them to a drive, than to transcode them using a Rocket or Resolve first and then copy over.

It really depends on the clients' needs. If you or your clients don't have a use for Quicktime files, then it's probably not something you need. But for $500, the Blade is not a bad monitor, either, it has good focus assist tools. But it is 1280 and most ACs will prefer something higher quality in a focus pulling monitor - but will usually pay twice much, too.

It really depends on your workflow and/or your clients' needs, as to whether this tool is worth it or not. There are many people who use them.

thanks for the replies !
