Is it possible to shoot with only the atomos samurai as monitor for a 1080p hd shoot?
Assuming you can still zoom in a part of the frame to focus?

Want a very very light kit.. I like holding the camera in my palms like a hasselblad
...

:)

Well- you still need to see your camera controls...& you need a clean feed to the Samuri. Do you have a side handle?
Your then depending on the accuracy of the Samuri monitor for exposure. Does it have some sort of zebra function, etc.

Yes it has zebra control etc... have the redmote.. side handle is nice but I like the box shape :)

I do own a Samurai, and from my experience the monitor side of the Samurai is only a confidence thing. Colors, exposure are way off.
Can you do it? Sure, but it'll be a little like a shot in the dark...

So two monitors on my red epic for shooting 2K. :/ i was really hoping the jump from red one to epic meant handheld .. possibly even shooting things without helping hands.

Normally I film with the epic and then I convert it to 1080p

The new Samurai Blade will be much easier for monitoring.
It has a much brighter, higher resolution screen and Waveform tools.
The previous version was a little difficult for viewing in bright daylight, though it does have focus peaking and zebras.
