I'm not too jazzed about them reverting back to just "Ninja" for the new base model, that can get confusing in time, why not "Ninja W" or jump to "Ninja X"? I am glad that there is 8K support but with many new cameras having compressed RAW options built in, I think we're going to need to see more features added for these external recorders.

For example, I'm looking at getting a Convergent Designs Odyssey 7Q+ to use for legacy camera recording as I'm toying with picking up an older cinema camera like the F35 to experiment with and the Odyssey 7Q+ is the only recorder outside of Sony's SR series to get the full 12-bit 4:4:4 and high speed recording quality out of the camera's dual link SDI output. Atomos could make a unit with this support and maybe even record the signal as Prores 4444 instead of CDNG to throw legacy camera users a bone and otherwise it's just dual SDI inputs for certain SDI workflows. They could also do an analog model for older camcorders and analog recording systems to cleaner signals and more modern codecs instead of leaving it to the no-name brand Amazon sellers with their hit-or-miss compressed MP4 and H.264 units. If they sold those, whether I had the camera or not, I would buy them just for the possibility of recording in older formats at some point even just for kicks and then there's always remastering the old home video tapes too, it would be awesome and having it all in one unit would make it a must-buy product.

There are also features like incorporating image enhancements like denoising and upscaling which I would have to get units like the Decimator 12G to get 4K upscaling to record to my Atomos from but if that could all be done in the recorder then that makes it all the more useful, especially if it were an analog model for remastering older material. There is always adding AI versions of upscaling and denoising as well but I think that may be a little too early and would most likely be too intensive for live performance at this point unless there was a feature to do it after recording but then you might as well do it on Topaz AI on your computer to be safe and dial it in. With units like the upcoming Retrotink 4K, it shows that there is a lot that can be done with modern computing for legacy analog and legacy digital playback, conversion, and output and it's Atomos' market to lose if they don't make some sort of product for that segment, especially as legacy video cameras can make a comeback for certain tasks or effects or simply due to advancements in AI upscaling and image enhancements.
