Since Jeff mentioned, I went to Akihabara today to search for ATI Radeon 3780HD and found it with no problem, I installed it on Mac Pro 3.2Ghz 8 core, connect via DVI to HDMI cable, to my Bravia W5000 52inch LCD Panel.

It was no problem what so ever, then comparing the output from Eizo 24inch LCD panel to Bravia with 10 bit panel, the gradation is a lot more solid on the Bravia. You have to make sure to turn on the colorspace to be "wide" in Bravia's color setting. I was stoked that the display in the system preference recognize Bravia connected via HDMI and the dedicated color preference shows up!

It doesn't seem to accelerate the speed much (comparing to Radeon 1900) but this will be great for REDCINE first light color grading.

I also hearing a Korean broadcast company will be coming out with 24" broadcast LCD video display with 10 bit panel and 4:4:4 input end of this year.

Chris,

I haven't played around much but do you see any significant performance differences?

Let me get this straight, you connected one of the outputs of the 3870 to an HDMI HDTV with a DVI-D to HDMI converter?
Sounds cool... will try it...

Sorry I called the product wrong, but you just need the DVI to HDMI cable. I was imagining that I would need to toggle between DVI and HDMI in the control panel or something, but after installing the driver software for 3870, HDMI output automatically turned on. It recognize the device via HDMI.

Chris,

I haven't tried this but 3870's system preference control panel has the choice in the monitor setting to be interlaced. Have you tried playing back any interlaced material?

oh, also, there's no switch between 8 bit and 10 bit for the video output, is it always outputting 10 bit?

I have a bravia and a hd3870 as well. But when I set it to 1920X1080 it seems to totally lose its pixel quality. The highest I can go up to without losing that crisp look is 1280X1024, any idea why this is? i have updated the drivers on both the tv and the video card. to latest, then rolled back and tried many different versions. still no luck.

im my settings, DTV (DVI) attributes, my gpu scaling is off and the aspect ratio is retained.

what exactly do i need to do for this thing to work????

I have been trying to find a solution for my problem jumping from forum to forum within the last 3 days... any help will be greatly appreciated.

for most full Sony Bravia's, you have to swith to full pixel manually. Out of the box, its automatic, and will scale your image. Connect your mac with a DVI-hdmi cable, then use this file as background in your Mac or in the AJA control panel, http://www.belle-nuit.com/download/testchart.tif
Then go on the Sony to the Xrossmediabar with the homekey on the remote, go to settings, setup , screensettings, displayarea and choose the full pixel option. Then the (8bit) belle-nuit testchart should be complete and perfect.
Then use another desktoppicture/photo, that you have on your computerscreen and also on the Bravia, pixel on pixel, and reduce the sharpening of the Bravia to your personal level - use a image with lots of detail, perhaps a face, and compare with the computerdisplay that doesnt do all those tricks.
also disable all other tricks of the Bravia as noice reduction, mpeg noice reduction, contract enhancers, motionflows, etc.;

Kaku ,

do you know if the panasonic 42PZ85U is 10 or 8 Bit...

I red a post where you wrote that X.V color is important and the 85U has it..

Is X.V color and higher gamut than 709?

Thanks

G

That was about 20 years ago – if ever…

Now it's 32/64 bit and will soon be full 64!

I guess Charles is talking about the color processing. ATI should provide 10-bit.

You mean 3870. Thread title says 3780. Can a moderator fix that so this thread will show up if people search for titles containing 3870?

kaku,

do know if the panasonic 42pz85u is 10 or 8 bit...

it does have x.v color but i can't find the info about the bit depth of the panel

PS:what is x.v color?

Thanks

G

x.v. color is a marketing name for an expanded color gamut (similar to DCI) and 10 bit. Sony has a few camcorders and Bravias which support x.v.color.

excellent!

2 question:

why in my 42pz85u in control panel the setting x.v colo have 2 setting (off , auto?)...i mean if means wider color gamut and 10 bit should be always on?...

Also panasonic in the top of the line pz850 have also "Cinema Coloe"...they say is a wider gamut (120% HDTV...)...Do you think X.V color is wide to use the plasma as a good playback monitor (not the main color reference..but...)

Thanks

G

The source and the display have to communicate about their x.v. color ability, so I suppose "automatic" stands for this. AFAIK, x.v.color is an industry standard, so I'm not sure if "Cinema Color" is the same.
If both source and display can handle it, the resulting image should come closer to cinematic colors than Rec709, but after all, it's still consumer equipment…
