Hey Everyone

I have been searching for a program that will catalog any drive connected to a computer and save its directory structure to a common DB that an be housed on a server to be shared by al client computers.

It our case we have 2 MPs, and iMac, and a couple laptops that all work on lots of different pojects. We have fast DAS storage on both Mac Pros, shared storage, LTO, and near-line shared storage, plus about 50-70 external drives, totally close to 100TB

I am sure you all have had that moment when you ask yourself, where is that project or file located. Obviously you can't keep them all online. And you have to move archived projects to single external drives or LTO. And it would be great if you could serach all those drives that are not connected to the system for that damn A002_C003_0803DF and it could tell you what drve it is on. Or for a folder name. or project File.

I have found one program that is close, NeoFinder, but it requires user interaction. i ant something where me, or any editor in our company does not need to worry about it. Does anyone know of a product like this?

If this does not exsist, what would the interest level be if I had the app developed? What would your target price be?

Anyone Else?

The Developers of NeoFinder say it is impossible, but I disagree, The spotlight API is accessible and that automatically indexes drives when mounted. Would love to hear from Jeff on this.

Matthew,

We are adding this functionality to our YoYottaID OSX app. At the IBC tradeshow (Sept) the new release will have a shared searchable database.
Connect a drive, tape or volume and YoYottaID will index all the media metadata.
This is in addition to the existing backup and archive features and LTFS support.

I'll let you know as soon as we have a beta version.

Meanwhile you can find out more about the current release here and download a demo here :-

Martin, the pricing on your website is a bit obscure - can you give specific prices for yoyottaid and yodailies? Is there a volume license as well as a single license - and is there a package pricing for buying both programs?

I like the fact that it works with so many different cameras. There is a typo on your website listing the Sony F5, F55 and then I think it's supposed to read F65 but says F55 again. Hopefully it does mean F65. That's under yodailies (support for multiple cameras)

Lastly, could you give a brief comparison of yodailies vs silverstack?

Thanks

Bruce, I'll also send you a direct email, but for the benefit of the REDUSER list, here are some quick answers.

We are a UK based company so I'll quote prices in sterling, the exchange rate is currently about $1.5 to £1. So £160 is around $250.
A single YoYottaID license is £160, YoYottaID library adds support for archive to dual LTFS LTO drives and costs £360.
Both licenses can be purchased instantly online using a credit card from within the application. These licenses are permanent and they can easily be moved to a new machine. You have control of expiry so you can install on a clients machine for limited period after which the license will return to you.

YoDailies is £3K and YoYo with YoDailies is £5K, the latter is aimed at post houses wanting to pre-conform and selectively convert or trim raw material prior to online or grading.
These licenses are a USB key so again you can easily move from one machine to another.

We have many users with multiple licenses and can work with you on volume pricing.

I've corrected the typo, yes we have supported the Sony F65 since it was launched and try to support every camera we come across.
We have supported the RED camera range since first launch and YoDailies processing utilises the RED Rocket card.

I'm not familiar with Silverstack, but it appears to be in-between YoYottaID and YoDailies both feature wise and price wise.
We wanted to have two separate easy to use products so that we can service the needs of production, offline editing and post production.
