Hey all,
Does anyone have experience with the Arri X lights? I'm extending them down from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor, shining directly into a set of windows 2.5 meters high. The instruments will be no farther than 1 meter from the windows. Will I be able to fill up the windows completely with light?

Thanks!
Misha

I believe you should be fine. The beam diameter on the Arri X series is roughly equivalent to "distance * 4". beam diameter = distance * 4

so at approximately 1 meter, you will have a beam spread of 4 meters.

2 other things to consider -

1) you may need to watch out for a hot spot but maybe not if you are shooting off angle

2) depending on wind conditions your shadows might dance. consider triangulating your rigging to increase rigidity. it will also allow you to extend your lights well past 1 meter if that's what you're worried about (although I understand you may be more concerned about city regulations and such). but aside from that, there's nothing stopping you from doing what you want

contact me at jason@CinemaOxide.com if you have further questions about rigging
