Hello. This is my first post. I made an effort to search for a thread with more information, forgive me if one already exists and please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I am shooting an experimental short in a few weeks and there's no budget for testing. 90% locked off shots, with static objects/talent. I have been reading a lot about the use of the Arri Shift/Tilt system and lenses, and I'd AC'd with that system years ago (with a 535 I think). The system and it's behavior make sense to me. What I can't seem to find are any posts about the use of that system with the RED, and any footage online. Or any discussion of particular pitfalls to watch out for with said combination.

Anyone out there experienced with this?

I'm also interested in the capabilities of macro (close focus) with the Arri Shift/Tilt system.

any info is appreciated.

thanks,

We have used the Arri shift and tilt alot with the RED with stellar results. I can not show you footage but either system will work and I have not encountered any "pitfalls." They work just like they are supposed to with any PL mount camera. The macro abilities are great. I have used a 100mm on it to get macro shots that are as small as the tip of a BNC.

Only small gotcha I encountered (I think it was Arri but it may have been Century) was that the top PL mount ear protruded a bit into the path of the tilt shift lens structure.

Solution is to unscrew the ear with the right sized allen key and flip it around, then it will fit no problem!

Abel rents the Arri Shift & Tilt system, as well as REDs! They work excellently together.

Ive used the Arri Tilt Focus set - 24 / 45 / 90mm on RED shooting static shots of food prep and cooking. It is absolutely amazing to de-parralel the focal plane onto a cutting board or pan. I would recommend renting the Tilt focus lenses rather than the tilt shift.

Also a large (17") HD monitor from the camera is necessary to really know what you're focusing on.
The tilt is very sensitive but once you get the feel between tilt and focus you can point the angle of focal plane exactly where you want it.
The Tilt Focus also swings (spins) so the tilt is not just horizontal.
