Arri MMB-1 & RPP's ???

Anyone using the MMB-1 with RPPs? I'm renting a set of RPPs to a feature and they have MMB-1 matte boxes for their cameras. I was wondering if there are any issues with this matte box, especially with the 18mm RPP, and if I need to round up a different matte box for them as well. I don't foresee any issues, but want to be sure. Don't have an MMB-1 here to test, and the primes are shipping out in a couple days.

Hey Jeff,

I use an Arri-MMB-1 with the Red Pro Primes.

They will just need the step-down ring for the common 110mm front diameter.

My 18mm arrives tomorrow. :emote_happyhappy:

I will check if there is any problem with matte box vignetting.

The MMB-1 covers all the RPPs, including the 18mm. This is true for the mattebox in clamp-on or bellows back setup.

Does the MMB-1 also cover the RED PRO 18-85 at the wide end? (with the appropriate adapters of course...).

It's a perfect fit if you are using 114mm bellows.
Here it is with the 18mm - no vignetting!

Thanks Milan, I really appreciate the photo. Just so I have this straight, you are able to use the MMB-1 unmodified with the 114mm bellows? I was under the impression that the 143mm back clamp kit was needed in order to fit this big guy on there. If not, that's great.

The only issue I've really had was with the Tokina 11-16. 11mm was not useable. Overall I love this MB! Lightweight and very durable. Although I wish it had a swing option.

The MMB-1 fits all of the RED Pro Primes just fine using the 114mm bellows back (with a 110mm stepdown ring) or using the clamp mount with appropriate rings. The picture a couple of posts above show the mattebox in front of an 18mm RPP.

The MMB-1 will also work well with the RED 18-85 zoom lens, but to fit it the mattebox needs the optional replacement 143mm back, which will clamp onto the lens or fit it neatly with the mattebox mounted to rods.
