I'm just checking for some matte boxes for our Precious RED onE camera and my eye was caught by three models:
Chrosziel 4x5.650 Combo Mattebox
Arri MMB-1
RedRock microMattebox

Though all have the same rod distance i'm still kind of wondering if they all come with an adapter to fit on the rods that come with the RED.
Out here in Beijing we have made it a standard to use 15mm rods on our camera. Now i read that the distance of the rods with the matteboxes was 60mm and our rods don't even get that close. Our rods go to 100m distance.

Could anybody tell me if we can easily order one of these babies and use it right away on our rods system or do we need to order a separate adapter to fit one of these on our camera?

Redrock is working on a 15mm Studio arm for their MB, but I haven't seen any availability dates mentioned yet.

Mr. Mark!

There are so many other brands matte box support 15mm
just search from the website, you will find a lot.

Cheers

There are three basic types of rod mount.

- 15mm lightweight, 60mm c-to-c, 86mm from lens center
- 15mm studio, 100mm c-to-c, 100mm from lens center
- 19mm studio, 104mm c-to-c, 100mm from lens center

The matteboxes you noted all have the 15mm lightweight mount. You have 15mm studio so you need an adapter to go between them. There are adapters available from Chroszeil, Zacuto and others, and we will have our own custom unit soon as well.

Buyer Beware. I do not know this company, but I have seen many camera accessories sold on eBay from India manufacturers that are subpar in build quality and often in specs. Pretty useless if it doesn't line up correctly.

Like I said, I don't know this particular company but I have seen some of these products 1st hand and I considered them worth nothing but the trash bin.

Yes, Abel does sell a competing product, but honestly you can go to many places to find acceptable items.

I bought one of these "India specials" in a pinch, it's as cheap as it seems and worth pretty much what you pay for it. That said it does the trick, just don't tighten it down too hard or you'll dent you rod. For a longer term solution look to Chrosziel, Arri or Abel's own solution.
