I am planing on purchasing a Cinema Scarlet with a full set of mini-primes. I've been hunting for accessories over the past few months and recently came across ARRI's MMB-1/MFF-1/MBP-1 kit (link). I'm seasoned enough to know what a matte box does and how to attach a follow focus. My question is, how should I go about attaching the matte box to these ridiculously small primes? I thought of using the zacuto universal donut, Is there a better solution?

Edit: Also, I want to go with 15mm rods (for weights sake), but I'm open to others systems. Has anyone had good experiences with cinevate, redrock, or zacuto gear? I can afford ARRI but that doesn't mean I want to waste money.

It's too early to tell.

I know Red is going to do their own matte box, which should work with the scarlet. And as far as follow focusing on the primes, keep in mind that with the redmote pro will be able to pull focus wirelessly.

If you really want to use the Arri MMB-1 then get some 16mm glass. I'm so glad I never got rid of my good 'ole 16mm/s16mm lenses and with cinema lenses there definitely wouldn't be a problem mounting a MMB on it.

The Redmote Pro will not pull focus on the mini-primes. The mini-primes are manual only lenses, unless you add a motor. The Redmote Pro will work with the fixed lens Scarlet, the Nikon and Canon mounts with electronic lenses, and I presume the full frame lenses Red will release with the FF35 cameras.

the MMB-1 is such a versatile mattebox!

It takes money to get there.. but Mine is dialed in!
(basically what it would have cost to just buy a mb20

I have the bellows options with 114, 100, 80mm backs
top load kit
clamp on option 80mm and up

my MMB-1 is now a light weight clamp on mattebox, and with the flip of a switch, its studio ready with bellows which will hold my pola and 2 4x5 top load filters.

As far as the clamp-on option, can you actually put different clamp-on backs on it like the LMB-5, or do you have to place inserts within the existing 138mm(?) clamp on back? If so, what lenses are you gripping, and have the inserts been gripping OK?

Also, regarding the mattebox in general... Is there anything that is decidedly cheaper about it, or strange, that ACs would gripe about (besides the 15mm standard)? Like, if you were shooting an important RED job and production had $ to blow, would you rent an MB-20 and leave the MMB-1 at home?

Any insight appreciated!
