Hi,

I have the Areca 8 bay thunderbolt 2 unit and I could not get it to turn on or be recognised by any of my macs. Doing a manual power up I can see the unit over network cable but nothing over thunderbolt - even daisy chained drives do not appear. The vendor of the unit was being very helpful last night and through shear luck I got it to boot when my mac turned on after I opened the case and looked inside. I did not change anything. Fast forward to this morning and it would not boot again.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Cheers,

Simon

Um, I'm assuming you have tried swapping the Thunderbolt cable for another one and tried connecting to both of the Thunderbolt ports on the RAID unit in case one is faulty or improperly grounded...?

Beyond that, it seems as if there may very well be something wrong with this RAID unit. No reason it does not just work, especially if you have tried connecting to more than one Mac. They're pretty much a plug-n-play sort of device.

Hi Jeff,

Yes i've tried various cables and combinations of other attached peripherals being connected or not. Had it working again this morning after opening the casing and it booted several times... Went out diving for the morning, came back and booted the computer up and the areca didn't respond.

Will try opening the casing, again.

The dealer here is doing everything they can not to take the unit back as it's $100 each way for domestic shipping.
