  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Are Zeiss ZF.2 lenses compatible with the RED DSMC AL Nikon Mount?

Hi All,

I am just about to invest in an Epic X Mysterium-X kit as my first RED camera kit.

I have a set of Zeiss ZF.2 Primes which I want to use with the Red DSMC AL Nikon Mount. I have enquired with my Bomb Squad Rep about the compatibility of these lenses with this mount, and they were un-able to confirm that they were compatible.

I would think that they should be as the lenses have a Nikon F mount, but as they could not confirm it I was wondering if any one has experience using this mount/lens combo.

Thanks!

Nikon lenses on a Nikon mount, should be fine, yes. These are full frame lenses, so expect them to cover the ENTIRE Epic sensor easily (ie 5K and up...they also cover 6K dragon).

Hope this helps.

ZF.2s don't auto-focus, so that's not an issue. I doubt that the mount will control the iris properly. (It does not control the iris on the ZF.1s, but they aren't chipped, so it's possible the ZF.2s are different.) But in any case, they have an iris ring, so you can control iris with that.

I use a set of ZF.2 Duclos cine modded all the time - fantastic lenses however I used a canon mount for them.

I can confirm that they cover everything - the iris will not show up but focal length will if you calibrate, I also have a few ZE's and the manual control over the iris on the ZF is much much better.
