I would, but as any of you, Stage II was a carefully planned and tightly budgeted operation as it was. Until my revenue and shooting gets upto speed, I would have to sacrifice required components to buy it.

But I would if I could.

And..... Overall coverage/insurance as has been mentioned is being obtained next week coinciding with my StgII delivery.

After the original 1-year warranty expires sure I will.

As I understand you can get REDARMOR at any time as a separate product, not necessarily just at the moment when you buy a camera.

then you'd better review the recent changes to RED ARMOR.... this is no longer the case, which is what we've been talking about here.

Oh snap! Well there is something to think about then...

I just answered my own question about what kind of warranty coverage came with the MYSTERIUM-X upgrades to get an idea what might come with Dragon upgrades:

MYSTERIUM-X Sensor Upgrade Standard Warranty – The Red MYSTERIUM-X Sensor and associated parts and labor is warranted for a period of ninety (90) days. All parts replaced by Red during the upgrade are the property of Red and will not be returned to Buyer.

Well, looks like I'm getting Red Armor.

I'm going with insurance. If you do the math using a conservative insurance premium ($200 annually per $10,000 equipment with a $500 deductible), it seems to make more sense. RED Armor is $1500 for two extra years, or $750 per year (remember one year is included with the cam). At that rate you could insure almost $40,000 of equipment for a period of two years, and have the added benefits of accidental damage, theft, fire, water, weather, etc. covered. RED Armor covers only your Scarlet body (around $10,000), and as far as we know only extends to equipment malfunction.

Essentially, with insurance my entire gear setup (Scarlet, lenses, batteries, tripods, computers, media, etc.) is completely covered with equipment insurance for less than the cost of RED Armor. Though RED Armor has the benefit of no deductibles, the worst that could happen with the described insurance plan is paying an additional $500 per year if you file any claims. It should be mentioned that with insurance there's a claim process, whereas RED Armor in theory is fast and relatively painless.

There may be additional benefits to RED Armor that we don't know about yet as RED's been pretty tight lipped about the details, but for me insurance seems like the way to go.

Exact same thinking for me

I'm getting Red Armor, a little begrudgingly though.

A friend and Epic / Red One owner said it's pretty much a must have. Says he could have more than paid for it with fixes he paid for on his R1, and bought it for his Epic (which sounds like has had a fair share of errors).

If I wasn't worried about 3rd party insurance taking so long, and waiting for adjusters to see if a claim is legit or not, I'd probably go that route. But when I'm looking down the barrel of a big job or two, $1,500 isn't all that much for piece of mind and quick(er) turn around. At least for this price (and for the first three years), it better be.

Unfortunately this isn't true anymore. It must be purchased before your order is processed. So, if you do want it, make sure you buy it before your order comes up. I personally am opting just to be covered by my Discover card's 1 year warranty extension. It's available to all Discover card members.

I'll be getting Red Armor and my VISA card covers up to one additional year the manufacturer's warranty, which extends coverage to four years.

Just talked to my VISA rep that confirmed this, as long as I send them a copy of RED's warranty if anything happens during that fourth year.

Yeah it's a chunk of change, but it's also peace of mind. Proportionally to Apple Care costs, it's pretty much the equivalent, i.e. about 10% of total value. A pretty good deal imho.

I think Applecare is linked to the product though, whereas if you were to upgrade to Epic during the 3 years and decide to sell on your Scarlet, indications are that you wouldn't be able to pass the armor on to your buyer. The other obvious difference with Applecare is that you can buy it at any time during your standard warranty.
