Compared to other extended warranty programs, RED armor seems to be fairly expensive, more than 10% of the camera body cost.

As someone pointed out in another thread some credit card companies, Visa, and Amex confirmed, will double your factory warranty if you purchase the camera with them.

That would get you two years for the price of free, good enough for me, but maybe not everyone.

I'm not. They sprung it on us to late in the process to be able to afford it. I didn't allocate funds for it at the moment. I was planning on doing it closer to January 1. I still don't like the move up on it. Coming up with an extra $1500 in short notice isn't easy for many.

I also would look and see what other third party companies charge. I bought an extended warranty on my 5D mk II through a third party and it was only $200 for four years of protection including accidental damage, which as far as I can tell RED Armor does not cover?

I'm opting for an owned equipment insurance policy. $475 a year and it covers $28k.

I'm considering doing something like this too, regardless of RED armor or not. Still shopping around. But I'm hoping they reconsider and take RED Armor back to having a year to purchase. I think there would be alot more cameras with warranties out there.

When original RED ONE cameras were upgraded to the MX sensor was there some kind of new warranty coverage? I'm really wondering what will happen with warranty coverage when there are Dragon updates.

I insure all of my gear under a production equipment specific policy that costs about $100 per $10,000 worth of gear per year (with a $1000 deductible.) Don't think I'll be getting RED Armor, especially now that you have to buy it at the time of purchase.

Does the insurance cover camera failure, repairs, etc?

Who do you have your insurance with?

Have to get it if i'm spending this much on a cam no brainer for me

I am pretty sure it does. Although now that you mention it I'm gonna go back and read my policy to make sure. I was amazed at how much it DOES cover, including any incidental damage (water damage too)
