Having found that my new rear SSD mount has no LCD port, I need to find a cheap LCD to at least see what's going on with the camera settings.
Does anyone know if the el-cheapo sub $250 5.6 inch LCD's accept the HDMI from the Scarlet ?
These monitors are by no means ruggedized or anything, but they sport true 1280 resolution, nothing to laugh at for the price.

Has anyone tried any cheapo LCD's on the Scarlet at all, with recent camera firmware ( which added some more HDMI options as well I believe) ?
Thanks

I was on a shoot where someone had a really crappy DSLR monitor with HDMI in. I'm pretty sure it was an 800x480 monitor, but it worked with 720P going out of the Scarlet brain hdmi. I would argue most if not all monitors with HDMI in can take a signal from a Scarlet or Epic now with the new firmware.

i've tried four or five different cheap Chinese monitors from $140 and up they all work fine, they also all overscan, but you still can see the settings;

I've actually had two similar cheap chinese HDMI monitors (identical on the outside) and with one of them the HDMI worked just fine with the Scarlet (1080, 50Hz) but the other wouldn't accept anything from the Scarlet through HDMI (both work with a 5D mark II).

The only reason these monitors aren't as good as RED option is cabling and power. It's difficult getting an HDMI cable that is the proper length and unobtrusive... Plus HDMI really isn't a robust connection (Do they have these with SDI?)

Other than that, I've used one and was completely content with its visual performance (and it was a 800x480 one.)

probably that one had more contrast, the one they say is 1280 looked too soft to me, I tried to adjust the picture, but it didn't help, i didn't keep any of those, I have a few 7" lilliputs those are OK even for focusing, but i use em only for steadicam rigs and DSLRs,
if you need one just for reference and framing it'll work fine, if you'll need more than that, the least expensive decent one will probably be DP4

I have, it's Ok monitor, but slow when you going from mode to mode, this one is faster, lighter and has slightly better picture, but it's only 5"

Well, that one does not work with my scarlet so far. Just stays black or flashes black and blue. I was testing with a 6' cable, I'll give it a go with a short one before I give up. Latest beta firmware in scarlet.
The 1280 one does work, but it is bigger, fatter, and is not as bright.

They both work with my computers output. Probably a digital signal level issue on the scarlet.

Whilst mine isn't under $250, it was $350 for 9 inch screen & it works fine.

BTW. I bypassed the whole connection translation issue & went battery powered wifi 1080 for less money then the LCD. No more tethered camera for me.

Paramon , I don't see that menu option.
I set hdmi resolution to 720 60 and 1080 60 , they both stop the 'unsupported resolution' message on the LCD, but only display black or blue and black alternating flash.
I do get a momentary glimpse of picture sometimes when I toggle the aspect ratio button on the LCD, then it gets distorted and goes black again.
I tried an HDMI active repeater to buffer the possibly weak signal, doesn't help.
This Ligos 5" LCD works fine on the computer output, as well as my Canon DSLR.
My 1280 resolution LCD works well, but is bigger and I'd like to use the Ligos one because it's almost the same form factor as the RED touchscreen.

I am wondering who is out of HDMI spec here ? Either RED is sending an off spec HDMI, or the LCD is off spec in what it can accept.
Red should be using an Agilent hdmi verification tester to double check the output, I would hope.
This is all tested with the 3.3.12 firmware on Scarlet.

in scarlet try to set resolution on auto
