Are both sides of LCD/EVF cable are made equal?

Hi guys,

there is this cable http://www.red.com/store/displays/product/lcdevf-cable-right-to-straight-18
I wonder can I plug whatever end I want to camera and the other to the LCD or is strictly straight end to camera and right-angle to LCD?

one more question, using these LCD/EVF cables in this configuration http://www.red.com/store/displays/product/red-touch-50-lcd
does the right angled side of the cable always point towards the lens, away from the operators body or is it possible to 'freely rotate' the cable inside the socket?

It always points the same way, I usually plug the angeled end into the camera though.

By the way, is the connector on either ends of the LCD/EVF cable a universal standard or is it a proprietary connector that only RED uses?
