Hello, I am a DAM and Transcoder on a shoot in LA. I am being challenged at every move or decision that effects my work.
We have a DP that wants the footage to be transcoded with a color look applied, but doesnt want to pay for a colorist to do the work. I was hired to data asset and transcode dailies, there was no talk about color corrected dailies. we have 2 RED Epics, 300-500gigs a day between the 2 cameras, that's a lot of footage.

I have suggested that we find a 'Look' in REDCineX and apply it in camera, so the new record media has a LUT and we dont have to tweak settings for hundreds of clips... I approacehd my camera dept, I suggest to them applying in camera LUTs.
I was told by camera department that LUTs are for Alexa only and all adjustments in RED Epic camera 'stick' to the media file...

please, can someone shed some light and bust this myth for me. I was speechless and all I could do was walk away. I think they dont want to deal with it because it can slow them down.

I found this thread and it appears camera dept doesnt know this camera like they think they do, or I have completely wasted my money attending reducation....

thank you very much in advance,

You can't apply a separate LUT in the traditional sense, but you can definitely apply a non-destructive metadata look (which is essentially a non-calibrated LUT) to every clip via look import or by applying the look in RCXp to every clip. It'd literally take 10 seconds (highlight the look and hit 'apply to all in project' or whatever.) In fact, it seems sooooo straightforward (inherent to raw) that I think I may be reading your question wrong.

Do you mean this:

and yes the video is exactly what I was talking about....
