[Rumor] Apple Is Working Hard on its Pro-oriented Applications - Lionel - 09:07:33

It has been a long time we did not include this specific sign between brackets in a news title; we obtained some interesting information from our sources. If Adobe is currently on the stage under the light of news networks after the release of its Creative Suite 4.0 (CS4), Apple is working very hard to update its Pro-oriented video applications. The different versions of Final Cut applications should be updated in couple of months (January?) and among new features, it should include:

- Native support and management of .R3D files (Apple recently made a demo of such function)
- One will be able to generate DPX sequences to transfer them to Cinema Tools
- Final Cut will be able to work in 12- and 32-bits.
- Apple will implement support and management tools for stereoscopic images.

Color 2.0 will support the same function, as well as a new feature named "Color decision list". Later one, with Snow Leopard and computational power linked to GPU resources, the new version of DVD Studio Pro and Disk Studio should be released. If the support for HD-DVD will be dropped, it will manage Blu-ray natively and will require a power hardware (Mac Pro with several cores). Due to the requirement of Snow Leopard, it will only work on a Mac Intel 64-bits.

And they are going to call it Final Cut Extreme (how long have we heard that).

I hope they finish within a few months, because that means that the new version of QT should be out around then. In order to rewrite FCP, they need to rewrite QT since it's the base of FCP and is what is limiting them currently. I'm sure the new FCP will be awesome, we need the 3 A's to compete with each other.

Interesting-
A little (a lot) off topic, but just up the page from that rumor on hardmac they have this:

About one year ago, we were reporting on our French website (macbidouille.com) that some Mac Pro owners were complaining about a weird and irritating smell coming our of their Mac Pro when it was switch on. We did not hear about this issue anymore, and Apple did not communicate about it, as defective parts were simply exchanged apparently.
Today, an article published in one of the leading French newspaper (http://www.liberation.fr) might bring this story back to the front page while bringing embarrassing information for Apple.

A scientist from the CNRS (National Center for Science and Research) was affected by this strange smell coming from his Mac Pro. As Apple could not fix the problem, he contacted Greenpeace to get the vapors analyzed by an independent laboratory. Results are surprising and might place Apple in a difficult position, while potentially igniting a scandal. Indeed, vapors were identified as toxic, harmful and among the compounds identified, there were styrene, benzene and other derivatives. All those chemicals are known for being highly toxic, and the benzene has been forbidden and is use is strictly controlled due to its carcinogenous properties:

hope it's not true.
if it is, i'm already doomed. :bye2:
often i breathe my MacPro more than 15 hours a day!

Back on topic, new Pro Apps it's what i'm waiting for.
I was becoming quite worried about Apple's commitment to pro customers.
Wonder what happened to Shake's successor: "Phenomenon".
Now that i think about it, the name reminds me of "Monstro", but right now i trust a lot more "Monstro" than "Phenomenon" ...

I hope to see big big things at NAB next year from Apple.
I don't expect anything sooner only because im sure they are gonna want to release FCPstudio 3 or what ever they call it and they will sell a ton with Scarlett , Epic and anything else RED releases.

Yes , 2 Mount ago i was waiting for R3D support from Apple , but we get it from Adobe , sow Adobe is winner ,
but i thing that R3D will work better in FC :)

Adobe?
where can i get the plug in for adobe?

Thanks

Man, I almost forgot about "phenomenon". Now I'm excited again for some apple implemented nodes.

When Apple releases 12/32 bit native R3D and RGB support and that also in Color, we are back to speak about it..... :) hopefully soon.....

5 years ago it took 10 minutes to render a dissolve in DV...

In 5 years we'll be cutting 4K in iMovie and all laugh about this...

if we are cutting 4k in imovie in five years it will be time to get out of the business

Errmm.. no. 9 years ago I was cutting DV footage on a cheap laptop (first Vaio with built-in firewire; my one and only Sony ever - appalling costumer service). Dissolves were rendered in about 1/2 realtime.

Now, 20 years ago - I built the first digital editing system for my then university, running on Premiere 1.0, with the fastest PC that was available then. Could capture at 1/2 resolution. Fades did take a few minutes to compute.

That said, I can imagine iMovie doing 4k in not so long. Let's see how Scarlet performs in the market, i.e. how many cameras are sold. (2010: RED releases RED mEye: mobile phone with built-in 4k camera?)
