With the release of the SDK and subsequent support for Adobe apps (as well as others down the pipe), I wanted to put together a definitive comparison list of the differences between the Apple (Final Cut Pro / Color) and Adobe (Premiere Pro / After Effects) workflows. (There is always the potential for combinations of the two as well as other applications, such as Assimilate Scratch, but for this comparison, I wanted to limit it between these two.)
There are of course Pro and Cons to both workflows. There are unique features, differences in possible color spaces, resolutions, import / export options, render speeds, etc.
With everyone's help, I hope we can put together a chart that compares each and makes it easier for people to understand the benefits of each path and help in their post production decision making process.
I can start with some obvious ones, and update this list as more are added:
APPLE Final Cut Pro / Color
OS: Intel MAC OSX
Software Versions Needed: ?
QT Proxy Support: 2K, 1K, .5K
Log and Transfer plugin support: Yes
Bit Depth Options: ?
Color Grading: .R3D files open natively in APPLE Color (Coming Soon). (Bit Depth Options?)
Audio formats support: ?
Output Formats: QT H264, ProRes, File Sequence, XML
Render Speed: ? / measurement system ?
ADOBE Premiere Pro / After Effects
OS: MS Windows XP, VISTA, Intel MAC OSX (Both versions Coming Soon)
Software Versions Needed: ?
QT Proxy Support: 4K, 2K, 1K, .5K
Log and Transfer support: Yes
Bit Depth Options: ?
Color Grading: .R3D files open natively in After Effects. (Coming Soon) (Bit Depth Options?)
Audio formats support: ?
Output Formats: QT, File Sequence, XML, Cineform?
Render Speed: ? / measurement system ?
There are a lot of areas that have been left out, may not be accurate, etc., so feel free to add to the list, and I will update the post.
Thanks everyone.
