  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple to hold “Back to the Mac” media event October 20

Maybe they fixed the gamma bug - I'd through a party if they did that...

What is the gamma bug? I just had a shoot yesterday and when we imported the proxies into FCP, our color correction we did in RedCine X and then loaded on the camera did not show up. The weird thing was that according to the metadata values it was there. It just didn't look like it. Weird.

iFCS just ... looks wrong, like a four letter word or something

Well the pattern is OSX releases are named after big cats starting with 10.0 Cheetah followed by Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard and then the current Snow Leopard.

Yea and that was my point. I guess that this pattern ends with lion, the biggest one, so what will be after the lion?

Someone alert me when they release FCS for the iphone.

Or even just the ability to import HD footage into the ipad, through the USB adaptor, and see it in a viewer to check shots on the go! Ie without using work arounds to import, with reducd quality and compression etc.

Imovie for the ipad. I know that there are issues with implementing this, but what about even a cut down version. Or some other equivalent rough and ready NLE program for rough cuts on the go.

Even the ability to use proxies and generate an EDL for FCP, would be great, to make use of traveling time, and odd moments.

why not use a laptop? you get more done that way.

I got a prediction: Us PC users could of got it months ago, but its in a Mac therefore its good.

I'll give you an example of why an IPad:

I was working on a set about a week and a bit ago and on Day 1 we picked up the director, DOP, and 3 of the actors from their hotel. The DOP had an IPad and he and the director were going over some things for the shoot. It was perfect for the car because they could pass it all around easily, they didn't have to worry about battery life or anything like that. At the end of every shoot day the DMT uploaded the dailies to the IPad and on the car ride back the DOP and Director watched them.

That's where the IPad shows it's worth. it's more portable than a laptop, but more powerful and larger than an iPhone. It's extremely useful on set, and is definitely something that "green" filmmakers want to look into if they want to save paper.

I'm expecting updated Macbook Air and Macbook Pro models. Also a preview of OSX 10.7 and iLife 11.

Probably won't see USB3 on either new Macbook product as Intel has not integrated USB3 into its mobile chipsets. In fact, an update would still be using the same chipsets, but we'll probably see a bump in bus speed, CPU and GPU offerings. Look for a smaller Macbook Air to offer a comparable solution to "netbooks" probably a 10.5 to 11.6" screen as has been rumored for months. I'm expecting an 11.6" and hoping the Air models' screens will be multi-touch aware and able to fold flat against the system to make a tablet. OSX 10.7 is rumored to have an iOS layer to replace the dashboard.

There's also the ever-present hope that Apple will release a system between the iMac and Mac Pro. As has been mentioned in this thread already and in countless other discussions for the past several years.

We may get lucky with that inbetween system Jeff. Word on the web is that forum moderators over at apple have managed to leak confirmation for iLife 11 and Macbook Air updates, plus one "mystery product.'' I'm just hoping for a really solid Air refresh, which i am guessing will be minus usb3 but oh well. We will know very soon i guess.

I'll be keeping a just as close an eye out tonight for whether Jarred has any more to say on Red Anamorphics though, great news to hear they are still in development
