can someone please tell me for editing red on a mac
which screen option is better on a budget.
one 30 inch display
or two 23 inch hd displays

and also on a budget and you can only pick one
what is better a macbook pro 17 inch
or a mac tower with 23 inch or 30 inch

thank you

and sorry to take away from the new build just appreciate the pro advice
thanks and why isnt there a reduser open chat again???? :construction:

yes sir a mac tower fully loaded

but after reading all the posts about workflows
it feels like i should wait a bit to see what computer would be best
problem is i have my red camera and only a macbook that works red alert
but skips frames and clearly doesnt play the beautiful sized images 2k or 4k

so my money waits in the balance

just want a computer that will work smoothly without all the future proof fears

An Apple 8 Core 3.2 GHz is the best Mac Pro you'll get for some time. Future proff it is. What hoever you'll need to get is "Video" IO cards from Aja or Blackmagic, Fiber-Optic RAID cards for connecting to high speed RAID Storage for when you want to work in 4K and probably 10 GigBit Ethernet connection card for running of a SAN.

2 23inch are ok but 2 30 inch are better. You'll edit 2k in full rez.

Of course your power supply system should be top notch.

thanks ashoka, thanks alot.

what did you mean by power supply, monster cable surge protector
or the breaker boxer in my home??

thanks again.

For storage check out Infiniband Multilane External enclosure to MiniSAS RAID from high point.

macbook pro if you want to use it on set and to double as studio on budget. Other than that, go nexto drives. The good think about the MBP is you can transfer onto external firewire drives (most important when using the cf cards) using reader and also do footage checks and other on set adjustments to make decisions by. The nexto drives allow you to download onto laptop drives and they verify the data, so that is a good option. They are very portable.

So if you need an all round low budget solution maybe the MBP is the way to go. As always it's a balancing act...

I have a MBP for my location work and use a esata express card with a two drive bay for downloads and backups on set. Then I have a MacPro at home that I use to process all my footage with. Works great and I have two esata ports on it that I use to hookup the location drives to.
