Apple on Wednesday denied published reports that its professional-level suite of video software applications is being refocused to suit more mainstream customers.

According to an AppleInsider report, the Final Cut Studio team has been told to refocus its efforts "to more closely match the needs of the majority of its customers." That would mean Apple would target customers moving to Final Cut Studio from the company's more basic iMovie application, instead of continuing to offer more high-end features designed for video professionals.

But Apple said that's not the case.

"Final Cut Pro is the first choice for professional video editors, and we've never been more excited about its future," Apple spokesman Bill Evans told CNET. "The next version of Final Cut is going to be awesome, and our pro customers are going to love it."

Woah! Apple actually has a spokesperson, and they allowed that person to actually speak? And regarding a rumor no less... Shocking. Maybe the door is cracking open a bit after all this controversy over Apple being such a bully lately.

I hope this isn't a dumbed down makeover. Several of the last updates have been very disappointing for the money.
I would like to see iPad integration into the workflow (lol)

Final Cut Pro needs a lot of work. Happy to see they're working with it.

Yeah, Final Cut iPad!

Have to admit this is the first time I can ever remember Apple commenting about a future version of FCP, let alone categorizing it as awesome. Good portent indeed...

Might be necessary at this point, no flash on iphone, adobe 64 bit, avid tons of native integration. everybody took a step forward, and stomping out the wild fire of speculation of dropping support was definitely needed.

I think the last version of FCP was a sucker punch. They were well overdue to release but Snow Leopard wasn't ready so they put it out and held back on the features. Then Snow Leopard dropped months after.

This is make or break for FCP and I'm hoping they rock the show.

All iPad jokes aside, I'd totally love to see the iPad used as an interface/display for Final Cut. Might give me a reason to look into one.

I thought this was insanely obvious from the start anyway...

It's amazing (but sad) how much somebody who doesn't really know anything about the topic, but posts inaccurate statements regardless on a rumour site can stir up so much... Getting Apple to officially respond is very unusual.

Agreed. There are a lot of people at the other companies that are happy to see this FUD be taken seriously but the truth is there are several good reasons for apple to take their time, good reasons to take both the money and the good PR that comes with having high end cinema production users (ever notice how disproportionately high the number of macs you see in movies and tv shows - and I'm pretty sure it isn't paid product placement - it is that so many creatives use macs) and there really aren't any good reasons for them to abandon fcs - the cost of the entire fcs team is trivial compared to apple's cash reserves even if they need a lot of extra time to both upgrade and rewrite for 64 bit.

Sorry, every time I hear this quote about how the next FCP is going to be "awesome!" I can't help thinking of this part of "Dude, Where's My Car?"

No mention of features, reasons etc, yet almost everyone using Macs is ready to proclaim it the Second Coming!!

Funny stuff!

Paul ;)

Or Sean Penn as Spicoli in Fast Times when he totally wrecks that guys Trans-Am or Camero,

"Dude, my Fathers a television repair man, he's got this AWESOME set of tools, we can fix it!"
