  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple Needs to Step up to the Plate

I actually think that FCP would sell pretty well on the PC. I should restate that and say, that I think OSX would sell well on the PC, which would then let users run FCP on non apple hardware.

but then you wouldn't have to pay $9000 for the 32 gb upgrade on a Mac Pro
(I priced it the other day)

So with today's news that Premiere is going to have native R3D editing what the hell has Apple been up to? They've had preferred access forever. Hopefully we'll hear Color has native R3D support soon.

Although Color support would be great, i think we'll need to see a serious upgrade to the code so that FCP can utilize metadata, offer better support for RGB, etc. QT also needs some work. I've learned to wait until you have the product in hand before getting too excited, but I have to say this Premiere news is intriguing.

somehow color support is indeed interesting but the software itself is not stable yet and not usable for feature with lots of cut. So i don't know if that would be one of the things that will keep us waiting from Apple, i personally dont. And also not to mentioned that OS X up until today doesnt support SDI Nvidia yet.

SDK and Adobe news from Jim will open all possibilities from software developers to chime in and gives maybe better solution.

Good point. Since Cineform uses access to the Premiere rendering engine on the PC side it seems likely there will at least be a pretty good Cineform solution shortly. But the Native R3D editing is really interesting. I'd rather see the rendering engine optimized for R3D to avoid a transcode. If RED gets something like that going in Premiere it could be THE solution.

Apple & RED have already announced that R3D support for Color is coming. FCP is however a strictly QuickTime application (just look at glue tools etc.).

Any ETA? I know you guys were showing a preview at NAB but I haven't heard any news since then. If you could edit a proxy in FCP and send to Color and have Color find the R3D's and render from there that would be a pretty decent workflow. Rough cut -> Color -> Render back to FCP in ProRes for the more complicated editing. Not perfect but not bad.

Actually with Premiere going native R3D you could edit in Premiere and then send to Color via EDL/XML if Premiere does that. Sound plausible?

My "pro tool" tends to render at 10% core utilization and the company which I bought it from sells gazzilion sexy phones.

...

Mouse is sexy but it feels like a bar of soap and is unusable for fast and precise work.
Keyboard is ultra thin but you have to pick it up to disconnect any usb device and after few weeks of heavy work looks like a family had a barbecue on it.
At least white is fancy. Distracting though, but fancy. Exactly what a pro-tool needs.

You can scale the sexy icons, but not the software appearance, where scaling actually matters on high resolution displays.

You can set the background of the finder windows for the icon view but not the list view and column view. Pure white will have to do there. Interesting logic.
Maybe in 2025 there will be "background" in "appearance" and at least three colours available in the "most advanced OS ever".

And I can choose how many graphic cards ? Wow. How often ?
Always ahead, Apple.

I also noticed the marketing slogan "It works" is gone.

/loud pissed off Dennis Leary voice/

And what the f**k is the purpose of "time remaining:" if it doesn't represent the actual time remaining ?
