The feature film "Raise the Castle!" is going to be completed soon and I'm involved from the beginning, convincing the member to shoot with RED ONE, edit natively, save money on pre grading/digital telecine with the Color, then take it to Imagica for real color grading and film out with Arrilaser.

I provided the management and my facility for the Apple Color color grading and saw how R3d materials evolved and went through the da Vinci color grading session. The result is great. Now I got the finished DPX files for the entire film to provide trailer editing and other promotional productions and the picture look really great.

The compositing portions are converted from R3D to Cineform, then comped with After Effects then output with DPX format and back to the Color timeline directly (this way, I can avoid having problems the DPX not playing when they were sent from FCP).

Also, we are providing the surround mix and sweetening for the soundtrack and it's done with MOTU Digital Performer/MOTU 896HD connected to KRK Expose monitors.

We are certain, that since we gathered all of the materials and processed most of the things at Musetex (stored in Infotrend RAID with metaSAN), we could overcome some impossible time schedules and demands from the client.

We will be posting the trailer soon to the red relay, so please be patient.

Thanks Sanjin,

How is any of your project going?

Hey Kaku!

Super!

Glad to hear things are going well.

So you didn't exerience any gamma shift with the DPX ? :)

If you edited natively in FCP, does it mean you worked in 2K ?

I'd be interested to hear more about the post steps...when you have more time.

...impatient to see the trailer :)

We had the team from Imagica come in to calibrate our master monitor from the Color output, specially configured with their DI workflow. They also configured the LUT with their da Vinci Resolve from the charts we provided. So, on our side, we simply render out from the Color with DPX/0 to 1023 setting.

Yes, it was finished at 2K.

Great

Thanks Kwan and Billy,

It's scheduled to edit sometime this week, I'm converting the DPX back from the lab to CineForm, so the director can edit with the final graded footage on his Mac Book Pro. And from the result, I'm going to some how cut the original DPX.
