Apple Event October 30th

Andrew,

Both were purchased from a friend at about half their cost so about $4500 for both. This was when I use to make money photographing people at different events, like graduations, before and after weddings, church events, family photos etc.I spend more time if any now correcting other people`s color corrections locally and just teaching friends and others online for free mostly because I love color correcting.

I love color correcting more than I loved photography so my photography based lenses mean less to me now. I want to get more into HDR grading and my current PC is limited, So I have to use a Mac for HDR and to use another color grading App Called Filmlight Baselight Looks which is only available for the Mac.

Once Tim came back at the end I stopped watching. I must admit I really didn't pay that much attention to the actual footage. That is amazing that all of it was shot on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I'm going to have to go back a re-watch it again to check out the drone footage and all the other footage you mentioned above.
I know there's a lot of Red fans here (understandably so), but if nothing else, this Apple presentation proves that we've reached the point where it's much more about what's in front of the camera -- the lighting, the lenses, the grip gear, the camera mounts, the cinematography -- and maybe not so much about the camera.

This behind the scenes video knocked my socks off. Just seeing a $1200 iPhone stuck on the end of a $100,000 Super-Technocrane is kind of jaw-dropping...

I really thought the show said some of the Apple event was shot on iPhone. Nope, they meant all of it. And the camera was using the Blackmagic Camera App, which is free. (They did use external timecode, external power, and recorded on external SSD drives.)

Marc,

Yeah when Andrew Dease posted it in another thread.

Apple's new Digital Cinema Camera to Compete with RED. - REDUSER.net

I couldn't believe it either. I thought for sure it was either an Arri Alexa Mini or maybe a Red that shot it. I think like you that a lot people sometimes under estimate the importance of good lighting, set design, shot framing composition and good Color Correction. They try to reduce it to the lowest common denominator like the Lens and Lut that was used and if they have one or both of those, they should be able to reproduce the "Look" entirely.

I think it's going to become increasingly more and more difficult to justify higher-end cameras for anything other than Feature films and or for Streaming Television shows. With the Apple iPhone 15 and even the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 6K available at very reasonable prices there is no real reason not to go out and just shot something that tells a story you think can add value to this world .

M3 Benchmarks better than expected

I think the M3 and M3 Pro chips are really not that big of an Upgrade from the M2 Macbook Pros. I think info like the ProRes encoder/decoders for each SOC and maybe other non disclosed important info may conclusively reveal that very fact.

I currently have M1 Max based systems that honestly do what I
need well enough.
It seems like there are decent gains with M3 but yes perhaps
the video encoders info was obscured to cover up a potential issue as you suggest.
Need more info on this.

I think all of the Usual suspect Reviewers will have their specifically configured M3 and M3 Pro Macbooks this upcoming week and they will be providing some real world tests. Then the M3 Max Macbooks will be coming later and we will know more about them then.
