I am grading a project in color with the workflow described in the new FCS 3 workflow white paper - transcode to ProRes, re-conform using native log and transfer. Assuming that the clips, when re-conformed in FCP, are pulling from the 4K R3D files... my question is... When changing the scale from 2.00000 to 1.00000 in the geometry room am I effectively zooming into the 4K file and not the 2K size? Essentially picking a part of the 4K file to output in 2K with no loss in quality due to "blowing up" the image? Basically I want to reframe a shot that was a little too wide and have as little degradation in image quality as possible.

Hope this makes sense. I'm a bit of a newbie to the red workflow.

Thanks in advance,
Beau

My understanding is yes, at least if you're using full-resolution rendering proxies. The reason that scaling factor is 2.0 rather than 1.0 in the first place is because it's scaling a 4K image to 2K.

Yes, in Color 1.5 in the geometry room you can make good quality reframings from the 4K information. To me the quality looks identical compared to scaling in Redcine from 4K file.

Excellent. That's what I was hoping. Thanks for your help.
