Sorry if someone else have just told this question.
But i'm in trouble with a long project made in FC with 2k and 4k RED footage, edited with m and h proxies, exported with xml to color (i don't know why, but the EDL workflow absolutely doesn't work on my project, so help me also this way). I want to clear this thing: is color automatically reconnecting my R3D files??? Because when i open the xml with color, it seems that he did this work: in the shot window of color (in the setup management) i can see my shots, named with extension of proxies used in fcp, and other shots named only color....can someone clean my brain about this???

Anyone can help me?

from fcp i just hit the "send to color" button, and voila', everything appear on color right away.
i realize that color has still problems when r3d files are long enough to be splitted in multiple parts.
what version of fcp are you using?

I'm editing on last version of fcp 6.0.5.....i've also heard about the problem with spanned R3D files....and there are too much solution i can find in this forum, maybe an update or fcs3 will solve it?

Yeah, if you send an XML or choose "send to color" (which I believe actually uses an XML) and one of your clips goes over the span then you will get a freeze frame where the span is. Are you sure you are setting the media directory correctly when you bring in the EDL? I found that I wasn't doing that and it wouldn't work without it. Also, 3k doesn't work all that great with this workflow. Hopefully NAB is going to have a FCP/Color update that fixes all of this.

I'm experencing it right now...a lot of freeze.
But the edl doesn't work...can you explain something more exaustive about setting the media directory?I tried to do it with the file structure of my backup...not with all of my files, but there's no way...

Thanks i'm trying it now!

But you did tried it?
Because it's gonna take me a lot of time...

Still having problems.....with edl...

The above solution is only if you have sent to color with XML and are experiencing the 'loop frame bug'. If not, you're fine.

If you "send to color" (xml) and then have the RED tab in the primary room available, then you're working off the r3d file.

If you're sending an EDL and having trouble, set the location to search for files to "Volumes" and it will look on all your hard drives.

If you can explain your problem a little more specifically, maybe we can give you a few more tips.

Thanks so much!
The xml workflow works really great now with this tip, and now i'm also testing the edl searching in volumes folder...i'm on a 84 min project, it's gonna take a lot of time (i think other 2 hours) to build the database...
Is it normal?

I would suggest breaking your edit into smaller segments to send to Color. It does not like having too many shots in a time line.

Definitely. 20 minutes or about 200 shots – whatever comes first.
