Searching the internet I came across this nikon part "Nikon BR-6 aperture control". It will control the aperture on G lenses and was original made for use with extension tubes and reverse mounting. Could this be made to fit a plate as an alternative to 'Nikon dumb mount'.
The aperture would involve guess work, as I believe it is controllable via a cable release, though this could be 'marked up' after experimentation.

Its only $70.00

?????????

Very interesting. I suppose if you were happy to cannibalise it, you could probably machine it into mount that would allow you to control 'G' lenses.

You'd have to do a fair bit of testing in order to mark off rough guides as to the aperture you'd be setting when you adjusted it, but between this and the camera's live histogram I think you could probably get away with it.

As far as I'm concerned anything that can allow me to use my 17-55mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 on the Red is an exciting proposition to me.

I am thinking of making something like that. The problem is there is not much space at the back of the Nikon mount. You have 1 to 2 mm of space between the back of the Nikon mount on the lens and the front of the adjustable mount on the RED.

Picture is of the mount I had made for me.

If the 'nikon br-6' was fixed to the front of a fixing plate, slightly recessed, is there enough movement in the back-focus adjustment on the red to compensate. My RED will not turn up for about another month so can not test.

Probably not. The back-focus adjustment is designed for very precise adjustment. I don't know what the maximum is but even if you could adjust it as much as a couple of millimeters you most likely don't want to do that when switching between PL and Nikon mount because turning of the mount is very slow.

Also the black part of that ring seems to be plastic which would make it impossible to attach securely to a mount.

I am thinking of some kind of solution but can't promise anything at the moment. Really want to use my 12-24 ;-)
