  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

anyone want 3072 x 2700 - rather than L bracket for portrait mode?

If it were possible for RED to offer a resolution of say 3072 x 2700, would this be useful for anyone?

It would be great for me to avoid the hassle of changing a mount to some kind of L bracket for a portrait format shot.

When using an L bracket, you have to deal with flipping any large monitors used for focusing and bracketing the shot and deal with the sideways image during post production.

The compression ratio might also end up higher than 6:1, as there would be less pixels than 4K Quad.

Are you talking about the current MX sensor or looking ahead to Dragon? And do I understand you to mean it would be a vertically oriented format, i.e. 3072 (v) by 2700 (h)? Because, of course, the current sensor is only 2700 pixels high.

I meant with the current sensor.

Yes, one possibility would be 2700 high and 3072 wide (not exactly portrait dimensions, but ... closer than what I can get with 4K Quad).

2700 would provide 25% more height than 4K Quad.

It might be do-able? Only the powers-that-be would know?

I'm shooting green 24 fps video of a single actor, so ... 5K isn't an option.

Having 25% more pixels in the vertical dimension would be useful when shooing video, at least to me.

But yes, for still photographs ... 5K absolutely!

Basically an ANA mode... and, yeah, it'd be delightful. I think everyone is kind of chomping the bit for ANA and WS modes in Scarlet as it would essentially give more usable resolution/pixels without being beyond the capabilities of the weaker-than ASICs and internals.
