I've seen pics of camera's equipped with them, but even those people don't seem to be actually using them for anything? And I've heard complaints about them adding too much weight.

What's the point of the Side Handles?

I screwed it to my bike, very comfortable, best I ever had.
Not that heavy though.
Still waiting for super-grip?
Any news?

I fly with RED so if you don’t want to be accused that you carry military missile laser ranger then do not screw the handles, it gives RED very military look.

I carry it in Tamrac Cyberpack 8 and warry if guy in the airport asks me to flip open the cover flap, the way it looks without the lenses on it is like air support remote laser tracker.

Total weight of Tamrac pack including the laptop is 42 lb and I have to look like I am caring only 22lb.
See you guys, I have to go now……….to the gym.

My understanding is they're used for mounting things such as the LCD and/or EVF or mounting the camera to different types of rigs.

please correct me, but the are not necessary for mounting the EVF/LCD... right?

oh! i was trying to figure out what the hell u were talking about :)

I have one of the handles. Earlier on it was a nice LCD mounting point, but now with the EVF I find myself not really using it that much.

However, the side handle is excellet for bolting 3rd party accessories to, such as wireless FF transmitters, audio mixers, etc.

The handles can be Very useful.

Mounted the RED on it's side with two side handles, to a 1030 S head, for vertical shot.

Mounted the RED to the side of a Train..... (Bug Klang and maybe he'll post the clip and a photo. Very coool shot.)

Mounted the RED inside a Nascar next to the drivers helmet, with two side handles for a little 160mpr POV fun... (Again, Klang has the clip and photos)

Guy's, the side handles rock when you have the need for them.

John Cordell posted a very economical EVF mount solution with a side handle.

That said, I don't mount them on camera unless I'm going to use them......

Or I'm demoing the camera.... LOL Cause they look cool.

I use them occasionally...they are not heavy at all.

Great as a mount point for wireless ff transmitters, etc (I use velcro) or to mount the camera as Sam mentioned above.

i use 2 on right side ( front/rear) to protect the the LCD/EVF cables .. i'm a bit lazy, i tend to put the camera on floor behind pass seat -then drive to next shot/location/place
