  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

anyone using the 17-50?

I will try to get some for you to see soon, just DP'd another video with it. Talk about a work horse. I need to get something like a 100mm to supplement it for shooting across a table or something of that nature.

Thanks Ryan. I just found it strange that no-one else has posted any other footage. I'm starting to think that it may be a good lens for me until I get a set of primes, especially now that my camera is mx'd. Looking forward to footage.

well I have to say I sold a set of primes and got this...I was worried I would miss them...not looking back.

Getting into the same line of thinking here...could have a killer lightweight lens combination with the Red 17-50, augmented by the Duclos PL versions of the 11-16, and the Nikkor 70-200.

Love my Cooke 20-100, will love it even more after MX upgrade, but it'll never ride on a steadicam...

Does Duclos make a 70-200 Nikkor in PL mount? Drool. I have that lens for my still camera, and would love to have it on my RED!

ah I see, he has the 80-200, which I guess makes sense 'cause you're not using the VR. Premature post. :) I do love my 70-200 for stills though.

I'm thinking about selling my 100 RPP to get the 17-50.

If I were you Vlad, I would keep the 100mm and add the 17-50 as an addition.

To me the typical prime set has 5 lenses 18 to 85. I feel I would have a complete prime set if I held on to the that 5, then sold the 100. I feel the 85 and 100 are very similar. I would prefer a 135 or a 150. Even the 300 RPP, but for shooting on my own, I think the 17-50 would serve me well

Is there anyway we can get an update when this lens will be available.

I am also looking for anyone who has used the new 17-50 RED? Im in the market for a short zoom and don't want to get something and then find out that there was a better cheeper lens I should have looked at first. Any feed back on the new lens?

I have ordered mine May 19th. It is backordered.

Still no information when I will get the Lens.

Thats really a problem. Where I live, there are no great possibilities to rent lenses.

Yes. Any update would be nice...

The easiest thing I can say is the 17-50 has replaced my RPP full set for about 80% of the work I'm doing.

It's lighter, has great contrast and color, intercuts with the RPP's easily, and in general has become my "go to" lens. There are some test shots up somewhere around here comparing the 17-50 with the RPP's and other zooms.

Only con I have is the dinner plate glued to the front of the thing makes standard matteboxes not fit without some changes.

That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks Joel.
