  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone using drop in uv's to protect the lenses?

Most of the time I am using a matte box, so not too much of an issue there, except for dust etc., but occasionally shoot without for run and gun or tight spaces. Just curious how many of you out there use something like a 114 --> 4.5" Schneider adapter with a 4.5 uv? I am moving up to a set of Canon cine lenses so I want to protect those guys :)

A lot of modern cine lenses are front-threaded to accept filters, so I think it's smart to have a set of clear filters for any lenses you may own. The Canon compact cine zooms are 105mm, not sure about the primes. Also a good idea to own an Optical Flat in 4x5.65 for the matte box.

Why would you buy a £3,000 lens and put a crappy cheap piece of glass over it?

Besides the normal use cases, I do it when my lenses get rented out or when I'm dubious about my AC. I admit when I pick up a set of lenses for my own use, they are usually the first thing I take off...

They cause ghosting and double highlights and fuck up your flares, so No.

Strangely enough, all those pricey Tiffen or Schneider "pro" 4x4" or of above size filters have no coating at all, so Nick is damn right!
I'm shocked nobody is worried about that.
I asked Schneider Europe about that once, they say it's too expensive for them to produce..ahhahaahh keeping in mind their list prices.
