Howdy... just reaching out to see if anyone is using the Ronin MX with their Raven? I've been using a full size Ronin, but am looking at a smaller/lighter rig if possible. If you have been using the MX, any pitfalls? Success stories?

I use the Ronin-M with the Raven. I mount the battery on the top bars and use the battery clip to attach my V-Lock. I use SmallRig extension rods to get the tilt balance right. The MX should work fine!

Thanks for the info, guys... good to hear from those in the field.

@George Bellamy - can I ask what lensing you go with? Do you think it would be successful with a Sigma 18-35 hanging on the front? Also, does it come with any sort of case, or do you have to add that?

@Thomas Kock - Nice write-up on your experiences with the MX, definitely gives pause. I have had good experiences with the full-size Ronin, then have been experimenting with the Glidecam Devin Graham. As mentioned, just trying to find a middle ground so to speak. I thought the MX might be it, but lack of tilt is kind of a deal breaker.

Hi Kevin,

hope you still enjoy the Raven.

I used the Raven with the Ronin MX and I would never buy a Ronin again.
The original Ronin is a backbreaker but a great Gimbal. The MX is not good at all.
It just balances with small lenses and the Raven (with jetpack) and the camera has to be upside down. You can buy the weight pack but why not design the Gimbal better in the first place
The Epic-W doesn't support to turn the picture, the Raven does but even so it's not nearly as smooth and stable as a Movi,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNgAFrohFSY The aerial shoots were shoot with the Ronin MX and you can see movement, wouldn't happen with a Movi unless really windy

I had a M10 for long time and then switched to Ronin MX because I liked the built in powering of camera (which is the only good thing I can say about it).
I know got a M15 and don't look back. Neither Gimbals come with a case like the original Ronin.

I would buy a second hand Movi there is real bargains out their (even with cases sometimes)... The M10 is the best medium size Gimbal in my opinion because it's super light and very capable.

I use my Raven with MX and I am pretty happy with it. You will need the Jetpack with to get good clearance of the power cable from the right arm. You can balance pretty much any lens with it if you use some counterweights. I run the Milvus 15mm with som DIY counterweights. Check out these images (not mine, but Philip Lima). I am really looking forward to test out the new small batteries from RED on the I/O Module as I think this will create a perfect camera counterweight for lenses like Milvus.

From DJI you need the RED accessories package and Power Distribution board. The Power cable from DJI os pretty bad, so look for alternatives.

If you do it right, you have a cheap, lightweight setup,

I use my epic dragon with the ronin mx , normally with a 18-35 art lens + follow focus + wireless video and to be fair I have had great success with it. The big ronin always gave me trouble and movi is a big investment with some people I know just finding it too complicated. For the mx no major bits are needed, just plenty of batteries, the big ones power the camera for about 30 + min the small ones for around 20. I did get light weight cables also for the monitor and power, which one should get anyway for every gimbal. Nearly a year and can't fault it really. I also use it with, easy rig, flow cine and puppeteer, and thumb controller. Been impressed with some of the punishment I have put it thru.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks for posting this here Jonathan. If anyone has any questions about my setup, feel free to ask! I've had good results with the RoninMX, mostly in the air.
