Just wondering if anyone has tried or is using a low contrast filter with their Red camera. If so, what strength and what brand do you guys recommend? I've read posts from both Jim and Graeme where they have mentioned using a 1/2 low con if you need to closely match the "Alexa" look. Someone must of tried this? What were your conclusions?
Thanks
Taj

I have a Tiffen Ultracon 1/4 which stays on almost anytime I use my Epic. When I go outside in extreme sunny contrast I add a Digicon 1/8 in front of that, then ND then Tiffen hot mirror on top of all that. I have added 82mm screw in adapter rings to all my lenses and have standardized on Tiffen 82mm filters. I had to rehouse the Digicon into a Tiffen ring because the Digicon ring uses the fine threads, Tiffen uses course. I do like the look with the filters better than without. I shoot a lot to the Pix 240 and I am painting my look in camera.

Awesome.. thanks Mark for the detailed reply. Is there a reason you went with the Tiffen Ultracon over the Tiffen Lowcon? And 1/4 over 1/2?
Thanks

Locon makes a milky shot with halos, ultracon just adds light to the shadows. You just have to test the strengths for yourself. 1/2 looked right to me. Digicon actually lowers the brightness by absorbing some of the highlights as it puts light into the shadows. Since I am adding it for exterior scenes to the 1/2 Ultracon I only seem to need 1/8.

Mark... a little confused, do you have the 1/4 or 1/2 Ultracon :-) Did you mistype the first post or the second one?
Gonna go buy one of them tomorrow, so just double checking.

Hi Taj,

I am curious about this. Can you post some frame grabs to see what you get? Thanks.

I definitely will be doing some tests after the holidays. Will make sure I post some frame grabs at least :-)
