  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone use NanoFLASH as videoassist HD recorder

It records and plays back both HD-SDI and HDMI video (apparently), why would it need to be certified?

I think it looks very promising, and there might be someone on here who has tried it out, and I would love to hear from them.

BTW:I am so tired of requests for downconverters to old crappy SD equipment, and want to support HD-SDI record/playback.

Weird. I was just thinking about this exact thing today sitting in traffic on the 101. Honestly I don't understand why VTR is still in SD... maybe a couple years ago, but the tech has been available for awhile now... and I've been asked for downconverters several times lately. Luddites !

You don need to unmount RED Drive from RED camera, you just unplug RED Drive cable from the cam and with long enough cable for FW 800,
FW 400 or USB 2.0 connect to MBP, then open ROCKETcineX, open folder, then choose your footage and that's it.

How does this make any sense as a playback device on set? If the camera is unable to keep recording anyway, you might as well just playback the footage straight from the camera to video village. And I think Erik is saying that they don't even have time for that.

There was a mention on another thread about the AJA Kona based video assist systems being able to read the new frame flags embedded on HD-SDI allowing for actual playback of shots with ramping. Does anyone know if the KiPro supports that (I expect not, but who knows!).

It needs to be easy to use, PLAY button, RECORD button, and so on...

We just had a demo Ki Pro on set last week and have placed an order for one.

The easiest (and most responsive) split recorder I've ever used. The input selector is a little buried (but you wouldn't be changing it during a shoot anyway) but the transport controls and clip selection are both dead easy and FAST.

It doesn't. But RED One outputs 59.94/50p only, what is you reason to have 24p?

That's true. RED ONE outputs 720p50 or 59.94, because those are the only SMPTE frequencies for HD 720. Camera is repeating frames to fill this standard.

QTAKE HD can identify repeated frames and skip them in recording process, so you can playback actual frames recorded in the camera.
