  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone try Firecrest Variable ND?

No idea about Formatt Firecrest Variable NDs, but I have an older Formatt Hitech 'Multistop' VND that is completely crap. I bought it to use on my Canon Cine Zooms, put in on once and got rid of it right away as it visibly softened the image to a ridiculous degree. If you want to make a $25K lens look like a coke bottle, well there you go. $300 down the drain right there. So I would be concerned less about the IR coatings and more about whether they've improved the glass or not. Hopefully they have, but that was a 'never again' moment for me with regard to Variable NDs.

Thanks for the response. The more I dug into it I saw that the vari ND isn't listed as Firecrest, so it might the same model you tried. I'll keep, looking.
