  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone shot behind the scenes type stuff on REDs?

You know, I think the drawback to using a red on behind the scenes work isn't just the processing time but the fact that you cant just whip out a red and start shooting. You can have a 5d up and shooting in seconds which will allow you to run in there and catch some fleeting moment. For other situations the red would be great but then there's the processing as you mentioned. I guess it depends on what kind of style of behind the scenes you want to shoot!

We used a Scarlet to document this behind the scenes video of a project we did: https://vimeo.com/41722740

2 days we used the Scarlet (for the 35mm shoot) and the other day we used a 7D (for the Phantom shoot)

There is a noticeable difference in quality and the Scarlet stuff looks much better. The major benefit was being able to grab BTS stills from the Scarlet, the 7D stills from video looked terrible in comparison. The crew thought it was funny that I was shooting BTS on a Red, but the quality is worth it. It was easy to handle with just 1 zoom Canon on it all day.
