  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone make a Fullframe to S35 speed booster?

Would make rokinons/leicaR/contax lenses very interesting, and a great work around for the sub 800 ISO world of dragon for lowlight situations.

There is one big problem, and thats the flange focal distance. There is literally no room. Focal reducers became possible when all the mirrorless system-cameras became available. Their flange distance is smaller, so there is some room to put glass between the lens and the sensor. Canon EF to EF-S is not possible for example. What would work is EF to EF-M, but that wouldn't help us REDusers. ;)

We would need new lens-mounts. I don't know if thats possible with the current sensor/body-design. A lens-mount with integrated focal reducer-optics would be great, maybe even exchangeable optics (like exchangeable OLPF) to suit the different crop-modes? ;)

Seems to me that there are already a number of fast lenses made for APS-C / Super-35 sensors.

Completely.

I was more interested from a technical standpoint. Obviously medium format to S35 would be possible, like the Kubrick Zeiss set. I suppose it would mean a custom mount. Just curious.

Yep, MF to FF35/S35 is something that could be possible and would be interesting to explore.
It's funny that you bring up the Kubrick-lens, because it's actually a lens with a built-in focal reducer.

Still, i think it could be possible to do something for RED cameras, because we don't really need that focal distance here, there is nothing (like a mirror in DSLRs) that uses that space.

Well, there is currently the Sony E Mount Speedbooster, which is Full Frame to APS-C. Unfortunately, there's not enough room for E Mount on Dragon.
