Anyone know where I can get some 6" 19mm carbon fiber rods?

Yeah, I know. . . I should just buy longer ones. . . but I don't want to. I can't find six inch 19mm rods anywhere. Anyone know of a source?

Thanks.

Stephen

Why do you need carbon fiber? The 6" ET ultra rods are nice and light...

Someone posted a link around here a while back for 19mm or 0.75" carbon tubing. Should be able to order that and cut it to length. I believe the shop selling it also had end caps that could be glued into the ends of the tubes. Dragonplate.com has solid carbon rods in .60" diameter that would be perfect for 15mm rods. Avoid the braided CF stuff.

Hi there, Jeff. . .

I'd actually buy the ET rods if they were black. . . I guess I'm just a "black is beautiful" sort of guy.

Ah... On that note, I was going to recommend RED's black-anodized rods. Alas, the shortest length for those is 12".

Carbonfibertubeshop.com might have what you're looking for. Actually they have the woven fabric tubes, which will work, and are available in .75" diameter, you can get them sanded smooth (ideal for our application), but these are a bit more likely to splinter or even explode under continuous clamping. The uni-directional (essentially what RED's Carbon X rods are) would be much better. But they don't list the right diameter. I suppose they may make it though. I know they would do custom, but I suppose someone would have to buy a certain quantity to justify it. Then again, they may already make the proper diameter and just not be showing it on their site...

McMaster Carr???

Hey, Jeff. . .

Do you see any reason why I can't buy one 12" carbon rod from RED and just cut it in half? That way, I could hide the cut end in the quickplate.

Thanks much.

Ah, what I will suffer for aesthetics.

:-)

No reason you couldn't.. You will want to cap or treat the cut end to protect it, though. I'd sand it smooth, maybe taper it like the finished end, and put some epoxy on it. Seems like a lot of effort, though. ...Damn aesthetics. I personally like the shiny chrome/nickel look of the ultra rods. I don't tend to use 6" rods much or at all, though. If I use top rods, I typically use 12".
