I've casually used bit torrent for a couple years now with relative good results. However, since I've been using it on my laptop (azureus/vuse on my macbook pro) i'm finding a problem where while I'm downloading, it stalls all other internet activity almost all together. No browsing, no email, etc. Torrent downloads fine, but nothing else. Also, this isn't always an issue. Occasionally, I can brows fine, but not usually.

Anyone know what I might be able to do to fix this?

THANKS! :)

wow, seems to be working great! :) thanks

Hey Brandon,

Just FYI, In the lower right hand corner of the Vuze Client's UI you will see two blue arrows, one going up and one down. The up arrow represents your upload speed and down arrow your download speed. You can right click both arrows and adjust the amount of bandwidth your upload/downloads will proceed at. This gives you the user all the control to continue to browse the web and download your torrent at a lesser rate if you wish.
Also, go to Vuze.com and download the new client and install right over the old one. It works much better.
Cheers!

You have to setup your torrent client correctly or else it will suffocate your Internet connection. You have to know what download and upload capabilities your connection has and you need to set up your maximum torrent download and upload to not more than 75 % of your overall connection capacity [especially the upload].

Simplest way is: Exit the torrent client while you're doing other types of work in the Internet and put it back on while you're away.

No torrent - no problem.

:)

Thanks Mike, I'll try the new version and see how that goes, although I've already tried setting my upload and download bandwidth and it had no effect. It's some other bug.

I've been downloading at night while I sleep, but the bug prevents everyone else on the network from browsing as well (not good times :) ) Transmission is working great too.

i recently switched from vuze to Utorrent. The problem with vuze is that it keeps getting bigger and slower. Whereas Utorrent is a tiny little client with all the features I really want. much more efficient. i do still upload some content to Vuze. but then again, vuze does some weird stuff to uploads and doesn't seem to get indexed by torrentz.com. i really don't know what vuze is trying to do anymore. they seem to be going downhill fast.

Yeah, I'm using uTorrent too. Azureus/Vuze offers very high level of control, but is a bit heavy. And the distribution scheme is a bit obscure.

I use only uTorren now. Very very small and simple. Now in beta for Mac.

In addition to the bandwidth configuration noted above, a torrent client (like uTorrent, which I also recommend), can open a LOT of TCP connections in very short order. Windows has a default limit on how many connections are allowed to be opend in a time frame, designed to limit the effectiveness of malware. This can temporarily choke other apps attempting to make legit TCP connections (like your browser).

Google for torrent TCP connections and you'll get several hits as to how to change this. If you can't find them, PM me.
