  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I would love to see at a minimum whether audio is clipping in the REDmote.

Some kind of visual or numeric indicator of the peaks would be nice also.

I'm sure those less audio-challenged than I am can add other requests?

Call me crazy, but I think you're better off hiring a human being to keep an eye on audio levels and have them worry about clipping. To me, the camera assistant and camera operator already have to worry about focal lengths, focus, framing, panning, tilting, other camera movements, plus where they are in terms of data usage and how much battery life is left. Dumping audio on top of all that is too much, in my opinion.

Marc - I totally agree with you.

Except, for some shots (luckily locked down green screen), I am the only one performing all those functions, and I'm located on another floor in another room from the camera.

I also monitor and record ProRes HQ 422 thru black magic intensity/hdim & the ancient FCP7 so that I can watch the live recording and have a backup of audio and video, but ... when capturing like that, FCP7 turns off the audio level metering for some reason (audio metering is live when I'm not capturing, ahhh).

At some point, I'll have to add a synching slate, external audio recorder, etc. - which might give me levels, but ... that's certainly going to be in the next tax year.

So besides watching the performance, all I really need to do while shooting looked down is see the % of remaining SSD and whether I'm clipping.

BTW - for anyone interested, I've had zero issues with my REDmote, I highly recommend it.

Les,

We are considering adding some sort of audio level indicators on the REDmote.

please do a true db scale, with -20 and 0 db clearly marked. you will make it easier to line up reference tones with audio gear.. including your wireless solutions
