I had to cook up some proxies for a client and used the h264 Quicktime codec out of RedCine-X 356. When I play them back in the Quicktime player they play back fine but if I bring them into Premiere CS5 they are missing audio and there is what I can only describe as digital video breakup. Using the Avid DNxHD codec for Quicktimes works great but the files are much bigger.

Anyone else have these problems with h264?

Hi Paul,

Im having issues with both Preimere Pro and After Effects CS5 on a mac Pro. Its simply hangs upon importing the files. Im not sure if this is related to your issue or if its a separate problem.

Can you give me a sample or a step by step way to create this problem? We don't use Quicktime to decode h.264 when possible. The reason is that QT decode for h.264 is either wrong via hardware decode (QT X) or slow via 32 bit decodes. Not to mention they add noise or something to the decode that is not in the original h.264 file. So we do it with other tech. So we need to see the file.

Cheers

Thanks David, here are two clips exported out of RedCine-X 452 with two channels of embedded audio.

Example 1.
H264 Quicktime

Example 2
DNxHD Quicktime

Example 1 plays back fine in QT Player, video plays back fine in Windows Media Player but the audio is just white noise and plays back with broken video and no audio in Premiere CS5.

Example 2 plays back fine anywhere.

1¢ for your thoughts.

I tested the first one and it plays video fine in 5.5 but no audio. I will send these files to testing to have them look at them in 5.5 and write an audio bug and in 5.0 to see about any crashes...

Thanks!

Dave

Thanks Dave. Both files play back a-ok in Quicktime player. In PP CS5.0.3 the h264's video keeps breaking up and you see (uh, hear) that the sound is lost. DNxHD plays back a-ok and h264 files out of a DSLR camera also play back ok. Only h264 QT's out of RedCine-X seem to cause a problem.
