  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone have Dragon lowlight/daylight examples or tests they can share?

Hey everyone,
Anyone have any lowlight Dragon sensor tests they can share? I ask because I am well aware of the "lowlight + tungsten = noise" issue with most digital sensors and the Dragon being no exception. However I was wondering if anyone has any comparisons or examples they can share of the Dragon sensor under varying lowlight kelvin temps. I have seen several examples showing how RED cameras can show issues under tungsten sources, but I would like to see how significant of an improvement there is with higher kelvin temps at low light levels. I do plan on running some of my own tests within the next month so ill be happy to share when I have them.
Thanks,
Ron

My memory is that the sensor for most digital cameras is optimized for 5600°, so my advice is to stick to that as much as possible. I tend to agree with Art Adams that when you shoot tungsten, most digital cameras suffer in terms of noise, color balance, and other factors:

While Art specifically criticized Red, I have seen similar situations with Alexa, Canon, and Sony cameras as well, so this is not a Red-specific problem.
