  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone have any experience with the Chinese knock off Steadicams? Like this one?

Look decent, how did you find it was for balance? Was the arm able to support the weight of the scarlet alright? I'd love to see some pics of your rig and see what kind of weight you put on the arm. I assume you went with the $1200 chinese version that was posted here and not the more expensive Leopard IV?

Thanks for answering any and all of these Q's. I am definitely looking at grabbing one of these in the near future.

Sorry, last Q. Which exact model did you grab? The one from 'Came' on Ebay? I noticed your rig has the angle adjustment plates that don't seem to be listed in that items pictures on Ebay.

When I ordered mine, the eBay auction didn't show the stabilizer with the angle adjustment either, but that's what I got.

We just received one for the rentals. Our Tiffen brand steadicams get beat up when they go out with "less experienced" clients so this buy is hopefully an answer to that problem and a lower rental price point for them which will be a win-win for everyone. Ive been a steadicam operator for 30 years, and this thing is an amazing value. It isn't perfect in many ways, but it does everything you really need and in a few ways better then my 10k Zepher. The biggest issue for me is how the arm attaches to the vest is very awkward, the rest is easily survivable for a 12-1300 dollars rig. If you plan on being a "steadicam operator"... maybe entry level to see if its what you want to do, but at some point it will not be suitable for everyday kind of usage, and working towards the fine-art of steadicam operation.

Can you elaborate on the down sides? What is annoying about the way the arm attaches to the vest compared to an actual Steadicam? Any other weird quirks? I'll probably buy regardless. I just want to know the deficiencies.

Here's a picture of me with it and some dude wondering what the heck I was doing.

Marlon how would this vest work with small but strong minded dudes :)

After looking at that instructional video, I think Ill manage.

The better bottom plate and monitor bracket as accessories... could someone point me to a website or image of just what this is and if ordering it, how to go about it. The Ebay vendor doesn't list anything and there is nothing on the CAME website either. Do I order this through the Ebay vendor, or directly from the factory? Would be great if they shipped together and came from the same place, if this is how you guys have been doing it?

Many thanks.

Is this the better battery plate/monitor option mentioned in this thread?

That's the one that I was referring to - it's here

I think that if you can afford the extra few bucks, it should balance better, because the battery plate slides in and out, as does the monitor, which can also be raised and lowered. It also has an adjustable bail block, where the arm attaches to the vest. I was able to upgrade my battery and monitor arm from the manufacturer, but the better bail block isn't compatible with my vest.
